# Mount

Also called: alt-azimuth, alt-az, equatorial mount, GoTo.

What holds and points the telescope: alt-azimuth (up-down, left-right) or equatorial (aligned with the sky's rotation).

An alt-azimuth mount moves like a camera tripod head — simple and intuitive; Dobsonians use one. An equatorial mount tilts one axis parallel to the Earth's, so a single motion follows the stars — the standard for photography. GoTo mounts of either kind find objects for you.
