# Azimuth

Also called: compass direction, bearing.

The compass direction of an object along the horizon: 0° north, 90° east, 180° south, 270° west.

Together with [altitude](https://astropilot.space/glossary/altitude), azimuth pins down any point in your sky. AstroPilot also gives it as a compass point — “towards the SSE (158°)”.

**In AstroPilot:** The sky chart and object pages say where to face, and the sky chart can turn to match your view.
